27th Sep 2005 - BCII Vs. Argos
Bunky Chollox 6-3 Argos
Mark Rogers, BC2 captain, stole the show last night in a
thrilling opening match that saw an incredible 9 goals.
BC2 lined up with a first choice team for their opening fixture,
with Justinho returning to partner Biggsio at the back, and it was only a few
minutes into the game that Rogers collected the ball, shimmied past a defender,
and struck the ball past the outstretched Argos ‘keeper to put the Bunky’s 1-0
up.
With Rogers playing deep, Daz up front and Ben wide right, Argos
were able to take command of the centre, however, and almost immediately
levelled the score with their first attack.
Undeterred, and following plenty of good movement on the ball,
Rogers sent Daz up the wing who cut the ball back for Ben to score Bunky’s
second, albeit a little fortunately, with the final touch being somewhat
suspect.
A few minutes later and Daz received the ball from the defence in
the centre, completed a ‘Bergkamp-esc’ turn, got away from his marker, and fired
the ball into the net. 3-1.
Again Argos came back, enjoying more possession now, and, taking
advantage of a slightly rusty defensive partnership, a close range effort found
its way past Ritchie A. in goal to maintain the pressure with the scores at 3-2
at half-time.
Rogers calmed the nerves a little just after the re-start with
another well taken goal, struck first time and across the ‘keeper from Daz’s
through ball, to give Bunky’s a 4-2 lead.
The end of the first half and the start of the second half also
saw changes in personnel, with Danny and Gaz joining the team, although with
both dropping deep, it did little to close the hole in midfield. It did
encourage Argos to attack more, however, leaving more space on the
counter-attack and after some close play, Gaz found Rogers in the centre, who
rolled the ball onto his favoured left foot and placed it past the keeper for
5-2.
Despite Bunky’s using the ball well when they had possession,
when defending they demonstrated their frailties time and time again and another
Argos goal was always on the cards … fortunately, when it came, it was too
little, too late, especially with Rogers completing the rout with a well struck
shot at the very end - his fourth, Bunky’s sixth and a great start to the new
season.
