BC1 produced their finest
performance of the season last night, beating Crownhill Vauxhall 2-0 and
closing the gap between the two teams to just one point, with Bunky’s having a
game in hand.
The result also confirmed a top
two finish for the current league leaders, MK Utd, and for Athletico Shenley,
playing in their first season.
The game started as expected,
tight and physical. Both sides are capable of retaining and moving the ball
around and did so. Although the balance of possession was probably with
Crownhill in the first half,
Bunky’s created the better opportunities and opened the scoring mid way into the
half after Richard Moss
skipped past the Crownhill right midfield, broke down the left wing and cut the
ball back to Sean to score
his 16th goal of the season.
Bunky’s came close on several
occasions through Rolfey and Sean again but the Crownhill keeper managed to
keep the ball out.
The second half, despite a few
seconds for the substitutes to settle, saw BC1 maintain their momentum with
the defence resolute, the midfield and forward line working tirelessly to close
out threats and Daz
keeping out the few opportunities that Crownhill created, whilst spreading the
ball well from goal.
After again going close on a few
occasions, Mossy, playing an exceptional game, finally secured the win to
secure the points.
Bunky’s haven’t finished outside
of the top three in Division One for five years and this performance
has allowed the opportunity to maintain this, despite an indifferent season in
respect of many of the results.
