2008/2009 Season Match Reports:
7/10/08
After a memorable
summer of transfer activity, new
look Bunky’s teams kicked off their 15th season with two top performances.
BCI vs. Cosmos.
BC1 kicked off with the tougher game, Cosmos, a fusion of last years league
runners up Athletico Shenley and Denbigh Loyals. Forced into two defensive
chances, we saw Bunky's debuts in goal for Paul, affectionately known as porno69,
and Ollie Bell. Cosmos started brightly, but thanks to some solid
defending were reduced to long range efforts that never really troubled the
keeper. BC1 did however find themselves a goal down after a tidy finish
from Cosmos midfield dynamo Ross, and things got worse when they lost last years
player of season Chris McGraw to injury, although some on the sidelines
speculated he just didn't want to be seen in public for too long in Tottenham
Hotspur socks, his 'injury' is likely to keep him out until Christmas, by then
spurs' relegation should probably have been confirmed...so Antony Nixon came on
for only his 2nd game in Bunky's colours. Despite creating some good
chances, most notably when Downie laid on a pass for last seasons golden boot
winner Sean, from the edge of the 'D', only to fire into the side
netting..anyone watching on from the 'grassy null' stand probably thought it was
in, however BC1 found themselves 2-0 down at the break.
Bunky's rallied back in the 2nd half, creating more chances, and they got one
back when Nixon picked out stand in skipper Sean, who fired in what will surely
be the first of many this season. Lots of tired legs as the 2nd half wore
on, and Bunky's pushed for the equaliser, but it just wasn't to be. All in
all, lots of positives, good football, lots of chances created against a team
who no doubt will be challenging for the top this season, good debut
performances, included a well deserved man of the match for new signing Ollie
Bell, well done boys!
BCII vs. MK Hounds.
BC2 kicked off the new
season against last years MK HFC now called MK Hounds, and couldn't have wished
for a better start! Just 30 seconds into the game Steve tested out his shooting
boots from range and caught the Hounds keeper cold, a perfect start for a team
fielding their starting 6, long may that continue!
MK Hounds did soon find their feet, and got themselves on level terms, with a
shot that squirmed just under Disco, shortly after BC2 survived a dodgy penalty
appeal (not even Sean would have given that one though)..BC2 did find it
difficult to get back into the game and went in at the break trailing 3-1.
The game changed with two hugely impact making subs, Tom, and James, another
Bunky debut, giving the team a much more attacking look, and it wasn't long
before Tom muscled his way past a defender to score from a tight angle, BC2 had
yet more joy down the left side when they somehow won a penalty..maybe Ray had
been spending his summer looking over old tapes and realised he owed us a few
decisions, captain Danny stepped up to level to scores, as if it was ever in
doubt...and the comeback of the season..fair enough it's still early days, was
almost complete when Man of the Match Steve, who had held the ball up up front
so well all game linked up with Tom to score another great goal with the outside
of his foot 4-3..BC2 unfortunately couldn't hold on to their lead, and MK hounds
equalised late on. 4 - 4 it finished and probably a fair result
Great Entertainment!
