Captain Rogers Match Summary:
Tuesday
night saw Bunky’s 4 line up against a Denbigh Loyals team that had already taken
maximum points from Bunky’s 3 this season
A
slightly different line up to the team that lost to Athletico last time out –
due to Captain Rolfe, Brett being unavailable – the starting team was: Disco,
Daz, Martyn, Rogers, Darryl and Dwayne.
No 15
minutes warm up before the game (which surprisingly seemed to help!) and the
stand in captain’s message was to play simple football and impose our game on
them – something we have done in previous games but only for short spells.
Some good
early possession and retention of the ball saw a promising start but with few
chances being created. All until some hard work from Dwayne paid dividends,
shutting down and winning the ball from one of the defenders and – after some
fancy feet – squaring the ball to Rogers at the back post to cleanly strike the
ball into the back of the net (this for all those not at the game – those at the
game saw a very untidy connection bounce a few times just out of the keepers
reach!)
So a goal
up and playing well – we have not reported that very often this season - until
loss of possession in the middle of the field (by Rogers!) led to a toe poked
effort that Disco could do little about
I am glad
to say that this was the turning point of the game – Bunky’s continued with
their control of the game and passing the ball which all led to Daz – one of our
back two – being passed the ball about twenty yards out with his back to goal. A
few touches and a wicked turn and shot (all in one action) with his left foot
beat the keeper at the far post – what a strike!
The
Bunky’s bench then played their part in securing BC 4’s first win. Alex and Sean
came on the two worked together to put us 3-1 up – Alex with some great work
down the right, after beating his man, un-selfishly squared the ball for Sean to
slot home. Just a point on this goal – we should score a lot more like these –
showing composure around the oppositions box and being aware of other team
members being better placed for an effort on goal
Sean
wrapped it up a few minutes before time with a turn and first time effort from a
good through ball. Towards the end of the game we started looking for more
difficult passes and sloppy defending(you know who you are!) gifted them a one
on one with Disco with only a minute or so left – pure consolation!
So there
is the commentary which is a bit one sided – however if we were thinking of
getting complacent lets remember that Disco made 3 or 4 very good saves from
both long range and short range efforts, they hit the post twice(think Disco had
them covered of course) and for the last 5 minutes they were literally at each
others throats – although some of this was down to our play. Point is the score
could have been different
All said
still a good team performance, 4 goals and our first win. Lets make sure we
build on this for our next game, keep it simple and impose our game and ability
on the opposition”
