2nd May 2006 - BCII vs. Argash

BCII 6-1 Argash

BC2 almost, almost, secured third spot in the league last night, coming from a goal behind to smash Argash 6-1.

I say almost but unless they lose their final game against Inter by at least 22 goals, it’s theirs - and ensures that at least one Bunky team finish in the top three for something approaching the 10th consecutive season.

It was a mixed night for the Club, however, as the earlier clash between Inter Minan and MK United saw Inter triumph 3-2 in an ill-tempered affair, (two red cards for United) meaning United yielded the Div. 1 title to Athletico Shenley and Inter moved ahead of BC1, who finished fourth.

Our congratulations to Athletico of course, who finish top in both leagues, but let’s turn our attention to the fine display of footballing prowess BC2 demonstrated in their  penultimate match of the season …

Tactical genius saw Rogers make some positional changes through the enforced absence of Biggsio (cold) and Danny (ankle), dropping Daz to the back alongside Justin, Gaz playing a deep midfield role and Rogers tucked in behind Ben. Ritchie A. took up his position between the sticks and Russ, Sean and Disco kept the bench warm.

BC2 started brightly, working the ball well and were regularly testing the Argash ‘keeper when they were caught mid way through the first half as Inter broke, scoring with their first shot of the match.

Undaunted, BC2 continued to play some excellent football with Rogers and Gaz knocking the ball around, Ben tirelessly creating space up front, Daz pushing on from deep and Justin holding a strong defensive line and the equaliser was well deserved when Rogers collected a pass from Daz, skipped a few challenges and coolly planted the ball into the far corner.

Within just a couple of minutes BC2 went ahead as Ben made it first to a long ball and just did enough to steer the ball back into Gaz’s path who rifled it into the top the corner.

Second half changes saw Russ and Sean both enter the game and for once, the subs fit easily into the formation and it was Sean who made it 3-1 after Daz had chased a lost cause down the left, won the challenge and pulled it back to Gaz who slipped it through for Sean to bury.

3-1 became 4-1 when Bunky’s sustained pressure was too much for Argash and Justin this time won the ball in the opposite corner, played the ball back to Gaz who’s initial shot was blocked but he hit the rebound first time into the far corner.

Sean added his second with another well taken goal and Rogers, not to be outdone, grabbed his second as he collected the ball from Sean, cut inside a defender and found the goal opened up in front of him. He was able to pick his spot and the ‘keeper had no chance.

In between Ritchie A. never put foot wrong and the few times that BC2 were exposed, usually on a counter-attack, Ritchie was able to deflect the efforts away with a superb overall display.

Bunky’s have shown over the last few weeks the value they offer to the league and any potential new sponsors (again in attendance last night), and also the benefit the reinvigorated training sessions bring.

A win against Inter next week will be sweet revenge and should be a formality on this form and following the 8-2 drubbing BC2 dished out to them earlier in the season.
